Anaerobic Digestion for Methane Production and Electrical Power Generation

Anaerobic Digestion for Methane Production and Electrical Power Generation

University of Technology, Jamaica

Runoff from poultry farms in Jamaica contribute to the nutrient runoff which accelerates the destruction of the coral reefs surrounding the island. This, coupled with the fact that the largest cost associated with the operation of the poultry farm is that of electricity, has led The University of Technology and Penn State students to partner to research and develop appropriate technologies to utilize the poultry manure to produce electricity, while reducing the nutrient loading on nearby water bodies. Benchtop scale modeling, pilot scale modeling, and full construction are part of the program.
